I intend to create a body of photographic work that I will
be continuously working on throughout the semester. The photographs themselves
will be conceptually based but heavily influenced by fashion photography.
Fashion photography has always inspired me but I haven’t taken many fashion
focused photographs before. I will be the creative director for the shoots
needed to create my folio; this entails making all the decisions on styling the
hair, make up and clothing of the models. On completion of my folio and towards the end
of the semester I will exhibit at Grande’s CafĂ© and Gallery in Manuka.
I am choosing to create a body of work and have an
exhibition because being a visual artist is what I intend to be, so practising
writing proposals to galleries and artist statements to accompany my folio now
while I am still studying will start getting me used to the process.
By working on this negotiated study I will learn how to
write an artist curriculum vitae, an artist biography, an artist statement and
a proposal to have an exhibition at a gallery. I will learn all this through
researching Contemporary photographers and also talking to local Canberra
photographers about their process.
Below is a list of the written work I will be submitting for
the negotiated study
-
Artist curriculum vitae
-
Artist Biography
-
Artist statement to accompany my folio
-
Gallery proposal
-
A catalogue for the exhibition
-
Final review of the semester long project,
discussing how successful it was and if it differed at all from the initial
proposal
As well as the writing skills I will also learn practical
skills such as;
- discovering
appropriate locations for the photo shoots
- organising
models and a hair and makeup artist
- Styling
(and scouting) the model’s outfits in each shoot.
